I painted on site, but took a photo for my files.  I do not draw first.  Large areas are blocked in (see above).

Backyard Iris, oil on gessobord, 12x12
    The space for the flowers was left blank and painted last.  I used palette knife and brushes, alternately. I often do like to scratch final lines, down to the white ground, with the knife.
